Mystery Monday

Did you guess the name of this week’s Mystery Creature? It is a recently discovered sea slug named Tritonia Khaleesi. The scientist that discovered it must have been big fans of The Game of Thrones as they thought the pale markings on the back of the sea slug resembled the braided tresses of the character Daenerys Targaryen, often called by her official title of Khaleesi (Princess) in the series.

This new sea slug really caught my interest when I saw its name as I had just Game of Thrones over Christmas.

Do you see any similarities?

The sea slug was found off the Northeastern coast of Brazil. At just 12mm in length it is one of the smallest known sea slugs.

Hi Naomi! Isn’t it amazing that new species are still being discovered and here we are thinking we know almost everything about the world. A lot of the new species have been discovered in rain forest or under water haven’t they? I always said I’d love to get a big hoover and suck up all the ocean to see what was underneath, imagine what you’d find! Thanks for joining in on my blog hop, now following your blog via GFC 🙂

Thanks Fiona and great point, the ocean is so deep we really know so little, don’t we! Some reports claim we still have 95% of the ocean to discover. I imagine that some creatures yet to be found down there will rival any alien ideas we have come up with!
